According to a media report, German insurer Allianz is weighing a potential acquisition worth billions of euros of the UK roadside assistance company AA. The owners of AA are also exploring alternative options to a sale.
The German insurance giant Allianz, through its asset management arm AllianzGI, is expanding its presence in Singapore by buying the fund management business of a large local bank for €376 million, marking its second acquisition in the region within weeks.
Allianz will purchase HSBC Life, the Singapore arm of HSBC’s insurance operations, for $2.09 billion. The deal follows a failed attempt at acquiring Income Insurance in Singapore at the end of 2024 due to political resistance, and it aims to strengthen Allianz’s presence in the Asian insurance sector.

BaFin regulatory examinations of German insurance companies, particularly Allianz, have identified significant deficiencies in governance controls.
